5 mistakes in social media marketing

Social media marketing \ 5 mistakes in social media marketing

We put together a series of five blogs to help businesses plan their social media marketing:

  1. 5 mistakes you make in social marketing
  2. The impact of video on marketing
  3. The mistakes you make in social media marketing
  4. Does social media work for your business?
  5. Tested ways to boost content marketing in social media.

Social media marketing is simple at its core but requires your customers and publishing platforms to deliver the message you want to deliver effectively.

Throughout our work, we find companies that have fallen into one or more of the following mistakes.  These are not obvious to everyone, but you (hopefully) won’t have to pay much attention to them after reading them; next time, you’ll remember them automatically.

1. Fear of spending money

Many marketers have a fear of the cost of social marketing, especially Facebook. But the reality is that well-optimized campaigns can achieve good results with even a small investment.

Properly selected audiences, combined with great promoted content, can generate low cost-per-clicks, so your monthly costs don’t get too high.

When it comes to social media marketing, it’s important to remember that setting objectives helps keep costs under control.

2. Bad images

One of the most common mistakes made by social media marketers is poor-quality images. When adding a photo to your company’s account, consider the way social media is browsed: only good images will be stopped. There’s no need to be afraid of editing your images either; there are many easy free tools, like canva.com, for that.

In addition to good quality, be careful not to use too much text in your images. Otherwise, the Facebook algorithm won’t be able to highlight the images.

3. Handling feedback

Feedback comes to every company, even to the ones who are slightly active. How you respond to feedback can gain or lose followers. For positive feedback, it is enough to respond with a thank you or alike.

On the other hand, negative feedback is nothing to be afraid of because lessons are to be learned. The most important thing is to respond to all feedback and to do so factually and responsively.

When responding to negative feedback, a good rule of thumb is to follow three points: thank, explain, win. Thanking feedback creates a positive image of your company, while reasoned responses alone can win the commenter over (praising the feedback giver also works).

The important thing to remember is that one good response is enough. In one response, you can make your point and respond to the commenter’s feedback. More than that can easily slip into an argument, so stick to the one reply policy.

4. Choice of wrong channels

It can be difficult for a business to determine the channels in which it is best to operate. There are many options, and their use depends on the company’s objectives and the environment in which it operates.

LinkedIn is a good channel for b2b sales, although direct advertising may not work there. On the other hand, Instagram works for visual products, and Facebook is a good tool for building a company’s brand image.

When choosing platforms, it’s worth considering how much time you’re willing to spend on maintaining them and which ones feel most important to your business. Keeping your social media channels alive and relevant requires many hours of work each week, so if you don’t have enough time, consider outsourcing your social media marketing (see: kublamarketing.com).

5. Ignoring content marketing

The winds of content marketing are blowing in digital marketing. Companies add value for their customers through content, such as blogs, videos, or info packs.

The ease of content marketing is that you can only produce content about things you know about. The more genuine and engaging the content you produce, the more your customers will believe in your expertise and trust you as an information provider.

When producing content, it’s important to remember that it must offer tangible benefits to your customers. Don’t make mistakes in social media marketing. Contact Kubla, we will help your campaign to succeed.
