SEO - What does it mean?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing a website to gain more visibility and traffic from search engines.

What are the main aspects of SEO?

SEO consists of several important elements, and marketers should underestimate none of them. SEO work requires patience and a systematic approach. It all comes down to the idea of how Google’s algorithm sees your site.

Make sure your keywords are relevant.

To attract more visitors to your website, determine which keywords to target. You should keep in mind that your site will be found with its own “brand word” anyway. For example, the window manufacturer “Tiivi” will be found with its own keyword “Tiivi,” which does not need to be optimized separately.

Instead, it is best to find keywords such as “window renovation.” To find these types of words, it is best to carry out keyword research. Below is more information on this.

You can also type the search term “window renovation” into Google and see what suggestions you get. These are good keywords to optimize on your website if you are doing window renovations in our example. A sample illustration follows.

Optimize each sub-page of your website with a keyword

You should carefully choose at least one keyword for each sub-page of your website. If you mix up all the words related to your industry, Google will have difficulty understanding what that page on your website is about.

For example, if you have found 20 important keywords for your pages, think of a page for each word.

Use the SEO-optimized keyword on your chosen page more than seven times, and this will also ensure that Google understands what that part of the page is about. You will be able to get to the first page of search results for free and the top of the rankings.

Make sure your titles and descriptions are right for your keywords.

Google is constantly scanning your site with its automated robots, and one of the most important areas for SEO is the metadata on the page. This includes the site title and description on every page of your business website.

It usually takes about fifteen minutes to define metadata using the site management system. So, it is a very quick job to get your site back on the first search page when relevant searches are conducted for your industry.

An important area of SEO work is link building. Google uses links to crawl websites, and they fall into two categories.

The first is external links, which are links from other websites to your business’s website. These could be links from your company’s resellers, for example, or links from partners to your company’s website.

The second area of links is internal links to your website. For example, you may have a single page on your website that presents your services. From this page, you can link separately to the “window repairs for detached houses” page and the “window repairs for housing associations” page on your site. This is an example of an internal link on your website, and this internal linking will also help Google better understand your website content. This will help you rise higher in Google’s free searches and get more customers to your site completely free of charge with SEO.

Naming Images

Search engines also understand images and their meaning. As part of this process, you should name the images on your site with a descriptive title, stating what the image is about in the title while including a keyword for SEO optimization. For example, a man putting a window in place would mean “Installing windows” as the image title.

So, it’s a good idea to give your images appropriate names in the site management system, and this will get your business images seen by many potential customers. In addition, the organic visibility of your business website will once again rise to the top of the Google front page, and you will get more potential businesses to visit your website to contact you.

Technical optimization of your website

It’s also a good idea to optimize your website from a technical perspective, and this is most commonly the quickest part of SEO. You can use your company’s website administrator for this, for whom these tasks are the most common routine SEO tasks.

The main technical optimization tasks are;

  • Optimization of text content for the desired words (keywords)
  • Metadata optimization, i.e., the title of the site and the description of the page
  • Giving the images an appropriate caption with the desired keyword
  • In-page links to help Google understand the structure of the site
  • The use of URLs in SEO also plays an important role
  • The “age” of the domain name of the site is also relevant for SEO
  • Last but not least, optimizing the site for mobile devices and tablets

How should you get started with SEO?

The simplest way to start SEO work is to train your own staff to understand how to make your company’s website more visible in Google’s organic search results. If you want your staff to better understand SEO tasks, it is worthwhile to receive training. This will be beneficial to your business and your staff as well.
